Profile Summary

Salma Begum is a Research Fellow and Lecturer at the Institute of Development Studies and Sustainability (IDSS), United International University (UIU), Dhaka, Bangladesh. Her academic and professional work focuses on adaptive delta management, climate change adaptation, sustainable development, and coastal water governance, with particular attention to marginalized and climate-vulnerable communities in Bangladesh.

She holds a Master’s degree in International Studies from the University of Tokyo under the Asian Development Bank–Japan Scholarship Program (ADB-JSP) and a Master’s degree in Development Studies from UIU. Her academic training is interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary, spanning mass communication, development studies, sustainability science, political ecology, and environmental governance.

At UIU, she is involved in research, teaching, and academic mentoring, and has taught courses such as Society, Environment, and Bangladesh Studies. She has collaborated with international research organizations including CGIAR, the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), and the International Water Management Institute (IWMI), contributing to research on water governance and climate adaptation under the Asian Mega-Delta Initiative. Her work emphasizes mixed-method and participatory research approaches and the integration of local knowledge into policy and development practice.
